Road Trip Hacks
2020 was the year of road trips! Solo, I did over 133 hours of driving in 2 months. During that time, I discovered these road trip hacks I'd like to share with you.
1.) Find a DJ on SoundCloud with hour mixes to keep you in a good “road trip” vibe! My go to’s are DJ B-renn and DJ Arman.
2.) Alternate between music mixes and podcasts. My favorites are Lewis Howes “The School of Greatness”, Shawn Stevenson “The Model Health Show”, Danica Patrick “Pretty Intense”, Jay Shetty “On Purpose”, Aubrey Marcus “Aubrey Marcus Podcast”, anything with Dr. Joe Dispenza, and Dax Shepard “Armchair Expert”.
3.) Stay present. Don’t think about how far you still have to go, focus on where you are & how far you’ve come.
4.) You might be able to get a workout in the car! Be careful with this one. You can do abs by “tucking” – rotating your pelvis forward and back, glutes (if your short) - heels on the floor and push your hips up out of the seat, and ladies, there has never been a better time for Kegels. You’ll look crazy but feel great.
5.) Call friends and family. Everyone needs a little extra love right now. This is the perfect time to chat and catch up with the people you love.
6.) Don’t book hotels in advanced, rather, drive until you feel tired. Stop at a gas stop once tired and look about an hour ahead of where you are currently at. Book a hotel from there, pop in a mix or podcast and make it to your hotel safely. Get some caffeine at the gas stop if you need it.
7.) Stretch morning and night! Take 5 minutes. Your body will thank you.
8.) Audiobooks are also a good option. Matthew McConaughey’s “Greenlights” was a fricken blast to listen to. It made 7 hours fly by.
9.) Get gas when your tank hits a quarter. You never know where you will end up and the last thing you want is to be stranded somewhere unfamiliar.
10.) When you get where you are going, change your oil and do regular maintenance on your car. Take care of it.
11.) Practice gratitude! For a car that can get you all over the country, for those guardian angels who protect you from the thousands of mishaps that can happen, for an alert brain to stay focused, for this beautiful country you get to travel around, for the small shops and miracles you wouldn’t see if you had flown, for the health of your family and friends, for the trip you get to go on currently, for music, podcasts, audiobooks, aux cords, kombucha, & ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING that has helped you along the way.
12.) This is also a great time to say positive affirmations out loud. The vibration of sound carries a much stronger wave than just thinking your affirmations, so say it loud and proud!
13.) **VERY IMPORTANT** I recommend you do NOT use priceline when looking for hotels in Utah and Colorado. We ran into some extremely sketchy places, and if you are driving solo, you will want to avoid these locations at all costs. The photos of the hotel online will look fine, but in person, it's more of long-term housing and the rooms are trashed. Just book the hotels as you arrive in person, making sure it's a safe place for you to stay the night.
